Kathy & Larry | Woodstock, Illinois wedding photographer
The only way to describe this wedding is sweet and selfless.
I was lucky enough to photograph Kathy and Larry’s intimate wedding. Kathy and I met a couple months before her big day when she was on the hunt for a wedding photographer. Lucky for me, she signed with me as soon as we spoke! Backyard weddings are one of my favorites - they tend to be more personal. The wedding was held in her daughter’s backyard on what was supposed to be a very questionable, weather active day. We were lucky that most of the weather held off until the end of the night but even if it hadn’t, it’s clear that nothing could’ve rained on this couple’s parade.
Every component of the night was filled with love.
The ceremony was officiated by her son, where every line was touched with a personal touch of the couple. She was given away by her sweet grandsons who were very obviously proud of their grandma. Throughout the ceremony, you could tell the love the two had for each other by the way they looked into each other’s eyes and by listening to the vows they wrote for each other. It was one of those ceremony’s as a photographer that filled your cup and reminded you of why you do this. Even though I wasn’t a part of this couple’s close knit circle, I felt as though I was.
The couple had their guests in mind throughout the night.
It’s hard to pick a favorite part of this wedding because there were a few. The couple’s first dance is always a highlight for me. It’s the first time the couple truly gets a couple minutes to themselves to just reflect. It was taken a step above that when their guests were asked halfway through the song to join them for a dance. Shortly after the first dance, a large bucket of pink roses were brought outside. The song “This One’s For The Girls” by Martina McBride started to play. If you’re a country fan and you know this song, it’s a classic girl power country anthem celebrating all ages of life. The couple invited girls to the floor by age and gave each a pink rose. When watching the couple pass out these roses, you could see the joy they had in celebrating others. It may have been the coolest thing I’ve seen done at a wedding.
So many other personal touches were made.
This couple did everything they could to make sure their guests were taken care of. Not only did they have helpers, aka babysitters, to help watch the little ones so the adults could enjoy their time, they hired a face painter for the kids. Another first for me as a wedding photographer! Another one of my favorite parts of any wedding is stealing the couple away for a few portrait photos. There was a pretty area across the street that had a path of greenery and a little pergola area that was perfect. I was able to learn more about this couple. They met online and have been together for a little less than a year! I would have thought they’ve been together for years. It was their first time getting photos taken and they were just so sweet.
A great night was had for all.
The night was filled with laughing, dancing and spending time with family. This couple worked hard to make sure their special day was special for not only them but their families in attendance as well. The final portion of my evening was the dessert table. I shouldn’t have been shocked to learn the bride made EVERY. SINGLE. CUPCAKE with a variety of flavors. This sweet couple was adamant that I take some home for myself and my family. My husband deemed them to be the best cupcakes he’s ever had. What a great night it was!
