You need photos done and you don’t know where to start!

I’ve been there! Variety is the spice of life, right? Take a peek at some of my favorite “hidden gem” locations across DeKalb County, IL! Each of these locations have something different to offer, all of which have amazing views with great opportunity for your photo session!

Riverwood Forest Preserve - Genoa, IL

SUCH an underrated photo location! This used to be an old golf course and has some breathtaking views! I was mad at myself for recently discovering this after living in Genoa for the past several years. In the summertime, there are gobs of wildflowers everywhere along with beautiful views of the sky. Golden hour is simply dreamy here. There’s quite a bit of walking to explore all that this location has to offer, but it is 100% worth exploring!

Afton Forest Preserve - DeKalb, IL

Talk about a “hidden” gem! This forest preserve is located south of DeKalb moving towards Waterman. It is quietly tucked away and boy, is there variety! You can find literally everything here - water, greenery, bridges, even an observation deck! Standing on top of the observation deck gives you unobstructed views of the large forest preserve. It’s even better with a gorgeous sunset! This is another location that would require a bit of walking if you are looking to find variety in your session. Also totally worth it.

Sycamore Sports Complex - Sycamore, IL

I know what you’re thinking. The Sports Complex?!

I understand how weird that might sound, but hear me out! There is a little area that is tucked towards the back of the Sports Complex. With a little bit of exploring, you will find two bridges that oversee the Kishwaukee River that offer something different for your session. You’ll also find see it’s close to the golf course, which also has some nice views. Little would you know, there were some beautiful wildflowers planted along the sports complex. It also serves as a frisbee golf course, so always a good idea to be mindful, but if you go at the right time, it’s a quiet location with some cute areas for photos, regardless of your type of session.

Shabbona Lakes State Park - Shabbona, IL

If you drive to the southern end of DeKalb County, you’ll find a beautiful state park in Shabbona. This is a huge park with a giant manmade lake in the center of it. You don’t have to drive far for some beautiful lakeside photos! This is another location that offers a ton of variety, including water, greenery and even sunflowers! There is a hidden sunflower field for the flower lovers who don’t want to pay for a sunflower fest. It’s a peaceful place that has a ton of provide for your session.
